Robert William Locke asked:

Well, let’s get the bad news out of the way first. Health authorities in UK and Europe (but not in the USA) seem to be agreed that food additives and colourings contained in kids’ junk food such as candies, cereals and chips are harmful and may lead to an increase in hyperactivity and other behaviour disorders. As diet is one of the keys in attention deficit hyperactive disorder treatment, this is bad news for the USA as no such legislation is in force yet for phasing out these harmful food dyes.

More bad news is that girls are often just ignored when it comes to attention deficit hyperactive disorder treatment because only boys are expected to have ADHD ! But many girls who suffer from ADHD tend to have severe depression symptoms in their teens. They may become suicidal and suffer from eating disorders. This was revealed in a study by the University of Washington who studied 800 white teenagers.

When parents have to deal with disabilities such as ADHD, they are subject to greater stress than parents with normal children. The parents showed greater levels of stress on the days they spent more time with their children. Other studies have shown that parents with children who have disabilities are more likely to get divorced or separate, partly due to the enormous pressure they are under.

Now for some good news. Thousands of parents are wising up on attention deficit hyperactive disorder treatment and are refusing to accept the drug companies hogwash on some of the dangerous ADHD medications which are prescribed in massive numbers for our children. They are also now becoming more wary about the side effects these medications can have on their children. They also know that attention deficit hyperactive disorder treatment need not necessarily be medicated with amphetamines which are mind stimulants. They refuse to take it for granted that ADHD children need to suffer from this disorder also in adulthood.

The other good news is that with a combination therapy of natural medication ,diet, exercise, parental and school support and perhaps behaviour therapy, ADHD children can grow up to lead happy and successful lives. There is no need to see ADHD as a curse, it is just a condition and needs a bit of special attention. Many ADHD children are talented and there is no lack of intelligence among them although some may have learning disabilities. You can find out more about a natural attention deficit hyperactive disorder treatment which will ensure that you and your child can lead a much more tranquil existence.

Ande Fishing Rods

Now when some children with alot of energy become restless in school, or a mother can’t control them, they are taken to a doctor. Doctors perform a theroized test on them and say they are in need of meds to slow them down. I really think this is a crock. Do you think it is necessary? And yes, I have researched this before asking. I want to know what you think.

Cleaning Vinyl Siding

Margaret. H asked:

So how exactly do you address something that has so many problems and so many facets to a single developmental disorder. Attention Deficit Disorder or ADHD is one of the more common problems that kids face to day, and this condition is not just limited to kids, but also to those young adults and even those of a much mature age. But of course, the root of the problem often springs up in young children and if you have a child that is suffering from ADHD there are certain new treatments that have come about that you may be interested in.

One of these new treatments is called orthomolecular treatment and what it does is that it gives hope to many children and parents of these children as it is able to address many of the learning and developmental disorders out there. While the human mind is still very much a mystery to investigators all over the world, this new treatment attacks the disorder in a slightly different way. For all the treatments combined, this sort of nutrition programme seems to have the highest success rate by percentage. This treatment has actually come about when psychologists have actually traced the root of the learning disorder all the way to when the mother is conceived with the child and they seem to have practiced some truly poor nutrition.

The mom’s state of health when the baby is being developed in the womb is really important for both the mother and the child, and the severe lack of proper nutrition will lead to deficiencies and learning disorders as the basic building blocks to create a healthy baby is simply not there and thus, the baby has to compensate for this by not building what it deems to be unimportant to survivability. Even an overconsumption of something as harmless as caffeine might cause the baby to be born with such a disorder in their mind. So where do we go from here? Malnutrition during pregnancy cannot be reversed, until of course is orthomolecular treatment, which is able to trigger the areas of growth and development within the brain of the child that seemed to have stopped or slowed down during pregnancy.

Providentially, breast feeding is once yet again getting hold of reputation with women in the United States. It seems astonishing that somewhat so primitive and very important to an offspring’s existence and happiness seems to be presided over by trend and reputation. A few years ago very little women took the occasion nor had the proclivity to employ breast feeding. It was supposed to be too protracted, too inopportune. Civilization did not hold up its fundamental temperament. In so many ways, these faddists reason us to take away ourselves from our individual impulses. This disconnects us from the natural world, and we misplace something of our humanity. Nutrition is really one of the more important things to prevent learning disabilities like ADHD and current treatments seem to be going in the direction to give children hope for the future.

Rheem Gas Furnace

Paul Hata asked:

In today’s world, the mass media is one of the most powerful sources of information. These have enabled people access and research any subject within a few seconds. One of the most researched subjects is medicine and diseases which are lesser known of. Thus diseases like the ADHD are one of the most researched and looked up. ADHD is a disease which mainly affect and is a neurological disorder.

What is ADHD?

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder or ADHD is a disease which affects people, mainly children, with respect to aspects like impulsivity, hyperactivity, inattentivity and boredom. However there is a controversy surrounding ADHD which states that ADHD cannot be diagnosed and that there are no proper and well defined medical tests to diagnose ADHD.

ADHD can also be defined as neurological imbalance caused mainly due to genetic factors.

The main characteristics of ADHD are as follows:

1) Lack of attention

2) Hyperactivity

3) Lack of control on impulsiveness

4) Inability to complete given tasks

5) Frustration

6) A child suffering from ADHD can be easily distracted.

7) Lacks organizational skills.

Can act without thinking too much about the action and its consequences.

Many of the children suffering from ADHD also show anti- social characteristics and rebel against the laws of the society.

Is ADHD really that big a problem?

According to a new report released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), approximately 1.6 million elementary school-aged children have been diagnosed with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Estimates reveal that about 6% of school going kids has ADHD problems. This figure is only partially representative as less than 50% of cases might be reported, less than that, diagnosed.

Approximately 35% to 40% of the children suffer from ADHD. It is one of the most common psychological defects faced by children today. As per researches conducted in the United States, almost 5% of the children suffer from the problem of ADHD.

ADHD is actually a problem which was very much prevalent in the past too. However it seems as though it is a new kind of disease because of the increasing awareness about the disease courtesy, well defined and authentic media documents and increasing medical research on it.

Causes and Diagnosis of ADHD:

The exact causes of ADHD are not yet known. However experts believe that the main causes of this disease are mainly genetical causes. There are also other factors like environmental causes responsible for ADHD.

ADHD can be diagnosed through various psychological tests. However it is not necessary that these tests are always conclusive. A professional psychiatrist or a psychologist can help a lot in ascertaining the degree and nature of the disease and help in treating the disease.

Conclusion:

A child suffering from ADHD requires the support of his parents, teachers and of all the people surrounding the child. Counseling, various tests and therapies can help the child in overcoming his difficulties and transform him into a truly gifted child.

Stainless Steel Paint

Diana Ketchen asked:

While there are many reasons for ADD and ADHD, one of them that is both important and relatively easy to control is a modified attention deficit disorder diet.

Simply by removing certain foods from the diet, you can greatly reduce, if not completely eliminate, your child’s ADHD. A diet for attention deficit disorder may indeed take care of the problem altogether, although oftentimes, what happens is that symptoms are simply eased to the point of manageability.

Here are some things you should remove from your child’s diet, no questions asked. You should try removal of these items for at least two weeks before you decide the removal has no effect.

§ Sugar and most caffeine

Children with ADD already have difficulty controlling impulses. The inclusion of a lot of sugar or any caffeine in the diet can just make the symptoms worse. Therefore, removing these substances eliminates potential triggers for ADD symptoms. If you can’t go to absolutely zero sugar, cut it to just 10% of its previous levels.

§ Dairy products

Oftentimes, children’s ADD symptoms can be made worse or even manifest if they’re allergic to something. Dairy products are among the most common of allergens for children. Therefore, eliminate all dairy products, especially milk. If you need a milk substitute, try rice or almond milk, or a product called Better Than Milk.

Have your child drink a lot of water and eliminate other beverages that might also cause problems, like tea (because of the caffeine), soda (because of artificial colors, sugars, flavoring and caffeine), or sports drinks such as Gatorade. Try just water for two weeks. Your child will complain for a few days, but very soon will get used to the taste. It’s a good idea to buy a water filter if you use tap water so as to remove any unpleasant taste and odors. Again, this is healthier, and will also eliminate chemicals that are unhealthy. See? There is a plus side for an attention deficit disorder diet.

§ Junk food

No processed, salty, sugary, white flour foods. If it’s junk (meaning empty calories), your child can’t eat it. (That includes some breakfast cereals, by the way.)

§ Fruit juice

This might surprise you, but juice has a lot of sugar content, which can exacerbate your child’s ADD symptoms. If you must, dilute the fruit juice with water to at most 50% strength, less than that if you can.

§ Chocolate

A tiny amount is okay VERY occasionally, but no more than a tiny piece once a week.

§ NutraSweet or other artificial sweeteners

Absolutely no artificial sweeteners.

§ Processed meats or MSG

Avoid processed meats or foods with MSG in them.

§ Fried foods

At most, your child can have 10% of the previous amount eaten.

§ Food coloring

Many children are sensitive to food coloring used in food substances like Kool-Aid. Eliminate these for two weeks completely.

Now, you might think that this attention deficit disorder diet is very restrictive, and it is, based upon modern standards. However, good, simple, natural foods are available. They just require some cooking. Get yourself some recipe books or go on the Internet to search for recipes that use only whole ingredients with nothing added. Things like meat, potatoes, fresh and frozen vegetables with no salt, sugar artificially ingredients added, and so on.

After the elimination period, you can begin to add some of these listed foods back, slowly. Keep in mind, though, that these are not healthy foods for the most part, anyway, so you may want to just eliminate them permanently from your child’s diet and from the rest of your family’s, too.

Once you begin to add these foods back in (especially things like dairy, which can be quite healthful and which you may want to keep in your diet), watch your child for reactions. Usually, you should see this type of reaction within four days of the foods’ ingestion. You may see physical subtle signs like red blotches or red ears, or behavioral changes like explosive temper tantrums. After about a month, you should know what foods to avoid.

Feeding your child’s brain

A healthy brain needs healthy foods. Breakfast is best done as a high-protein, low carbohydrate meal. Shoot for 60% protein and 40% carbohydrates for this meal and choose things like eggs. If your child doesn’t like eggs, you can use protein supplements like shakes to help your child get extra protein. There are many “just protein” shakes on the market that have no artificial colors, flavors, or sugar. They can be quite bland, so you can be creative and make shakes from rice milk, a banana, some protein powder and a little carob powder, if you wish.

§ A good quality multivitamin and mineral supplement made for children

Remember to buy one that has no artificial colors and flavors added.

§ Fish oil

These come as capsules so your child doesn’t have to taste the “fish” taste if he or she doesn’t like the flavor. Fish oil feeds the brain with omega-3 fatty acids for proper food. Most children need between one and two capsules a day. (Avoid these capsules if your child has any type of blood coagulation problem or other condition that may result in blood thinning. It’s a good idea to check with your doctor, too.)

§ Fruits and vegetables

Go organic if at all possible. This helps ensure that your child has no pesticides in his or her diet, either.

You should see improvement in as little as two weeks to a month. Again, the diet for attention deficit disorder may not completely eradicate behavioral symptoms, but most likely, they’ll certainly lessen. An attention deficit disorder diet will be much more effective when combined with other natural ADHD alternative treatments, such as homeopathic remedies.

© 2009 EzineArticles.com - All Rights Reserved Worldwide.

Painting Vinyl Siding
