How can I tell if my son has Attention Deficit Disorder?
June 27th, 2009 | by admin |neurotic3109 asked:
My son is almost 7 and is generally a good kid. He’s got a great heart. Lately I’ve noticed that he is starting to have problems focusing on certain things. If I give him a task to do and I don’t make sure that I have his undivided attention while speaking to him, he won’t do it and if I ask him to repeat back to me what I just said, he doesn’t know. I’ve also noticed that if I give him a list of things to remember, he has a hard time retaining that information. Should I have him tested? If so, do I go through his pediatrician for that or a mental health facility?

I would talk to your child’s doctor about this. I’m not sure if they are the one’s who do the testing or someone else, but they can give you a referral to where you need to go and can get your son the help he may or may not need.

It appears that you are seeing certain signs of the syndrome. By 7, they should have the ability to remember certain things.
Being a kid does give some spontenaiety and impulsiveness. Talk to your pediatrician about the things you see. You may need to be referred to a place where this can be tested better.
Have you seen the book “Is your shild’s brain starving?” by Dr. Michael Lyons? It is a book with some recipes to help with the recovery from this disorder.
